PLANT CITY, Fla. – A dispute that escalated into gunfire led to the swift arrest of a convicted felon earlier this month. Officers from the Plant City Police Department responded to the incident around 11:20 a.m. on December 11, apprehending 26-year-old Michael Davis, a ten-time convicted felon, shortly after the shooting was reported.

The incident began with a dispute that erupted into gunfire. Officers located Davis traveling in a vehicle on the 500 block of Wheeler Street. A high-risk traffic stop ensued, during which officers successfully detained Davis.

A subsequent investigation uncovered a defaced, loaded, and illegally possessed 9mm handgun in Davis’ possession. The handgun, coupled with Davis’ extensive criminal history—including prior convictions for Written Threats to Kill, Burglary, and Controlled Substance Offenses—highlighted the severity of the situation.

Davis was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail and now faces multiple charges:

  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm (1st Degree Felony)
  • Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (3rd Degree Felony)
  • Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (3rd Degree Felony)
  • Alteration of a Firearm Serial Number (3rd Degree Felony)
  • Possession of Cannabis (more than 20 grams) (3rd Degree Felony)

Chief Richard Mills commended the officers for their decisive actions in preventing further violence.
