TAMPA, Fla. – A 25-year-old Plant City man has died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after he followed his ex-girlfriend to Tampa, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the Tampa woman, 27, contacted the FHP about 8:45 a.m. on Thursday to report that her ex-boyfriend was following her southbound on I-275, following a domestic dispute.
Investigators say the woman exited the interstate and was located by FHP Troopers at the Circle K near SR-60 and Howard Avenue. While the woman spoke with Troopers, the Plant City man arrived across the street at a car wash.
When the man saw the woman speaking with troopers, he pulled a handgun and shot himself in the chest.
He was taken to a hospital in serious condition and later died from injuries sustained from the self-inflicted gunshot wound.
FHP says the female victim was not injured.
