Suspect Who Shot Woman Multiple Times, Kills Himself During Standoff With Deputies

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – On Sunday, Pinellas County Chief Deputy Paul Halle held a press conference to discuss an attempted murder that occurred at 7850 134th Street North.

On Sunday, at approximately 1:30 a.m., deputies responded to 7850 134th Street North in unincorporated Seminole after reports that a female had been shot.

Once deputies arrived on scene, an adult female was located at a neighboring home with multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive.

Deputies attempted numerous times to communicate with the suspect, who was still believed to be inside the residence, but he did not surrender.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and the Negotiator Response Team were called to assist.

After nearly 7 hours, specialized equipment and tactics were utilized and the suspect was located inside the residence with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Detectives have identified 65-year-old Wayne Lovell Dew as the suspect.

Next of kin has been notified.
