Pinellas Park Police Warn Of Phone Scam Impersonating Department Staff

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. – The Pinellas Park Police Department is alerting residents to a recent phone scam where individuals are impersonating police personnel to defraud citizens.

Scammers are calling Pinellas County residents, falsely claiming to be members of the Pinellas Park Police Department. They are telling victims they have an outstanding warrant for missing jury duty and demanding large sums of money for its resolution.

While the scammers are using various phone numbers, some victims have reported calls originating from 727-369-7809, which is the legitimate main line for the Pinellas Park Police Department’s administrative offices. This tactic is used to lend credibility to the fraudulent calls.

The Pinellas Park Police Department emphasizes that they will NEVER call, text, or email citizens requesting money over the phone, nor will they ask for banking information to wire funds.

Residents are strongly advised to:

  • Never provide personal or account information over the phone to unsolicited callers.
  • Contact their local law enforcement agency to report any suspicious activity.
