HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A 23-year-old Pinellas Park man was killed in a fiery motorcycle crash on the Gandy Bridge late Saturday night.

The accident occurred around 10:35 PM near the Pinellas County line. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on the bridge at a high rate of speed when he collided with the rear of a Hyundai Tucson driven by a 41-year-old Orlando man.

The impact caused the motorcycle to strike the barrier wall and burst into flames, ejecting the rider into Tampa Bay. The rider’s body was later recovered by Tampa Police divers.

The driver of the Tucson sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The crash is currently under investigation. Speed is believed to be a factor in the accident.
