Pinellas Deputies Shoot Armed Man Threatening Family In St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Three Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies shot a man who reportedly pointed a gun at his family and then charged at officers.

The incident occurred Friday, November 8th, around 10:30 PM at a residence on 47th Avenue North in St. Petersburg. Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call where a woman and her two teenage children reported that the woman’s partner, Jeremy Lyle Reed, had threatened the teenage girl with a firearm.

After relocating the family to safety, deputies attempted to secure the perimeter. Reed exited the house armed with a handgun and ran toward the deputies and the family.

Three deputies fired their weapons, striking Reed. He was transported to the hospital with critical injuries. No deputies or family members were injured.

The involved deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave while the Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Investigative Task Force investigates the shooting. This is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
