TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. – Hurricane season is nearly here, and Pinellas County Emergency Management and Tarpon Springs Fire Rescue will host a free Hurricane Preparedness Day expo on Saturday, June 1, to provide residents with information and resources to keep their families safe this hurricane season.
The family-friendly event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Tarpon Springs Public Safety Facility, 444 S. Huey Ave., Tarpon Springs.
Residents will learn from experts how to prepare themselves, their families, and their properties for hurricane season.

Event highlights will include:
- Hurricane Season Guidance and Extreme Weather panel presentation with Denis Phillips, Chief Meteorologist with ABC Action News, and Ross Giarratana, Meteorologist with the National Weather Service
- 2024 Hurricane Guides
- Evacuation zone lookup
- Special Needs Evacuation Program registration
- Free hurricane kits
- Information about sandbags and other flood barriers
- Information about the countywide Flood Vulnerability Assessment
- Free pre-filled sandbags: 10 per household
- Free animal services: Exams, rabies shots and microchips
- Free hot dogs and beverages provided by The Salvation Army
- Opportunity to see emergency response vehicles up close
- Kids’ activities
“Weather experts are predicting an especially active hurricane season this year,” said Pinellas County Emergency Management Director Cathie Perkins. “Now’s the time to make sure you’re prepared. This event will be a fun way to learn how to protect yourself and your family and to pick up resources to help you make a plan for hurricane season.”
Pinellas County individuals and business owners can learn more about preparing for hurricane season at disaster.pinellas.gov. Residents can also save money on hurricane kit supplies during the 2024 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday, which runs June 1 through June 14.
