PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office will recognize the dedicated service of its school crossing guards with a special ceremony on Friday, February 7th, in observance of School Crossing Guard Appreciation Day.
The event will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Sheriff’s Administration Building in Largo. During the ceremony, crossing guards will be honored for their commitment to ensuring the safety of children as they travel to and from school. A total of 35 crossing guards will be recognized, receiving awards for Length of Service and Perfect Attendance.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office School Crossing Guard Program has been assisting children since 1972. The program, which began as a volunteer effort, has evolved to meet Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) standards. Currently, the program serves unincorporated areas of Pinellas County, as well as the cities of Dunedin, Safety Harbor, Oldsmar, Seminole, St. Pete Beach, and Madeira Beach.
School crossing guards undergo mandatory training, including classroom and field instruction, to ensure they are well-prepared for their duties.
