PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Hundreds of pounds of unwanted medications were collected at the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Operation Medicine Cabinet event held Saturday.

As of 4:00 PM, the Sheriff’s Office and partnering agencies had collected 449 pounds of medications. The final total is expected to be higher once figures from the Largo Police Department are included.

Operation Medicine Cabinet aims to:

  • Educate the public about the safe disposal of medications.
  • Prevent accidental poisoning of children.
  • Raise awareness about prescription drug abuse.

All medications collected will be properly disposed of.

For those who missed the event, permanent medication drop-off containers are available year-round at the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Administration Building in Largo and the North District Station in Dunedin.
