PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – With temperatures expected to plummet, Pinellas County is opening cold night shelters on Wednesday, January 8th, and Thursday, January 9th, to provide safe and warm refuge for those experiencing homelessness.

The Homeless Leadership Alliance announced that multiple shelters across the county will be open, offering individuals a place to sleep and, in many cases, a warm meal.

Shelters will be available in Tarpon Springs, Clearwater, Pinellas Park, and St. Petersburg. You can see the full list of locations and hours of operation below.

To ensure access to the shelters, the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) will provide free bus rides to and from the shelters starting at 5:00 PM. Riders simply need to inform the bus driver that they are going to a Pinellas Cold Night Shelter.

The decision to activate the cold night shelters is based on the National Weather Service’s “feels like” temperature forecast. Shelters open when the forecast predicts temperatures of 40 degrees or below between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM.

Families with children seeking shelter should call 2-1-1, or contact First Contact (formerly Tampa Bay Cares, Inc.), for information about family shelter availability.
