Pinellas County: One Dead In Three Vehicle Crash Overnight In Largo

LARGO, FL. – One person has died after an early morning crash that is being investigated for impairment, according to police.

On Saturday at approximately 1:55 am, officers of the Largo Police Department were dispatched to a three-vehicle traffic crash at the intersection of East Bay Dr and 8th St NE resulting in one fatality.

Police say a red Toyota was traveling eastbound East Bay Dr.  The driver approached a vehicle in front of him in the median lane.

As he attempted to pass the vehicle, the Toyota struck the vehicle.  The driver of the Toyota veered right to the curb, before overcompensating and crossing all of the eastbound traffic and entering westbound East Bay Dr traffic.

Once there, the Toyota struck a red Nissan head-on, killing the driver and injuring the passenger.

Both the driver of the Toyota and the passenger of the Nissan were transported to local hospitals for their injuries.

The driver of the Toyota exhibited signs of impairment and a criminal investigation is underway.

The Largo Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit responded to the scene and is conducting the investigation.  The roadway will be shut down until mid-morning.
