PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Residents who suffered roof damage from Hurricane Milton can now receive assistance through Operation Blue Roof. This program, a joint effort by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and FEMA, provides free temporary tarp coverings to prevent further damage to homes.
Homeowners have until Tuesday, November 5th to apply for this service either online at BlueRoof.gov or by phone at 888-ROOF-BLU (888-766-3258). Proof of residency, such as a driver’s license, is required.

Eligibility Requirements:
- The program covers primary residences and permanently occupied rental properties.
- Vacation rentals are not eligible.
- Homes must have less than 50% structural damage.
- Standard roof shingles are required for tarp installation. Metal, clay, slate, and asbestos tile roofs generally do not qualify, but exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis.
- Homeowners must clear large debris, like fallen trees, from their roofs before installation.
Operation Blue Roof crews will remove existing homeowner-installed tarps and minor debris to ensure proper installation. This service offers a crucial lifeline to residents as they begin the recovery process after Hurricane Milton.
