Multi Vehicle Crash

PINELLAS COUNTY: Multi-Vehicle DUI Crash On I-275 Involving FHP Trooper

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL. – A Wednesday afternoon multi-vehicle crash left a mess on I-275 North in Pinellas County. FHP said that one vehicle, a sedan driven by 29-year-old St. Pete man, started a domino effect that crashed three other vehicles.

Troopers say around 2:42 p.m. Wednesday, three vehicles were traveling northbound on I-275 in the inside, center, and outside lanes.

A marked FHP patrol car was stationary on the outside shoulder as the Trooper was performing traffic enforcement, and the patrol vehicle was parked perpendicular to the travel lanes, adjacent to the entrance ramp leading from 54th Avenue North, near mile marker 26.

For an unknown reason, Troopers say the driver in the inside lane lost control of their car and traveled into the center lane colliding with the left rear of another car. That car then rotated counter-clockwise and overturned several times before coming to final rest along the inside shoulder of I-275.

The driver continued into the right lane and then collided with the left side of a pickup truck which rotated and overturned onto the outside shoulder.

Once on the shoulder and while overturning, the pickup truck collided with a metal light pole and the left side, hood, and windshield of the FHP Troopers car, before coming to s stop on the shoulder. The Troopers patrol car was pushed northeast several feet before coming to a stop.

Investigators say the car driven by the 29-year-old St. Pete man rotated and came to stop in the outside emergency lane. The man identified as Emanuel Cortez Ramsey of St. Pete was arrested for DUI (Drugs), no valid driver’s license, possession of cannabis, and careless driving.

Miraculously, all drivers involved, suffered only minor injuries.
