PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Detectives from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a shooting that occurred on the evening of September 4, 2024, in unincorporated St. Petersburg. Deputies responded to a 911 call around 8:37 p.m. reporting gunshots at 5352 79th Street North.
Upon arrival, deputies found 39-year-old Matthew Weisner in the driver’s seat of a black Chevrolet pickup truck, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Weisner was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains on life support with a non-survivable injury.

According to the investigation, Weisner, who is in a relationship with 38-year-old Amber Souza, had been drinking with Souza at her residence in Pinellas Park earlier that evening.
The couple began arguing, and in a fit of jealousy, Weisner contacted Souza’s ex-boyfriend, 36-year-old Michael McMann, threatening him with physical harm and a firearm. Weisner then drove to Michael’s home, though Michael was not there at the time of the incident.
Michael’s brother, 30-year-old Austin McMann, was inside the residence when Weisner arrived in his truck at a high speed, leading Austin to believe there may have been a crash. Unfamiliar with Weisner and unaware of the situation, Austin armed himself with a firearm and went outside to confront him.

Detectives say Weisner was shouting angrily and reached into the truck’s center console. Believing Weisner was preparing to draw a weapon after hearing a sound similar to the racking of a gun slide, Austin fired multiple shots at Weisner in what he described as self-defense.
Austin McMann has cooperated fully with detectives and is claiming self-defense in the shooting. The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time.
Weisner remains hospitalized and on life support following the shooting.
