Pinellas County Barrier Islands Remain Closed, Transportation Offered For Evacuation

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – The Pinellas County Barrier Islands are closed today as deputies and work crews continue clearing debris and assessing the area for safety hazards.

Reevaluation will take place tomorrow. To prevent looting, overnight patrols will continue from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

Free Transportation Off the Islands

Starting at 6:00 p.m. today, September 27th, buses will provide free transportation for those wanting to leave the barrier islands. Buses will take individuals to designated drop-off points where they can arrange further transportation to shelters or other locations via Uber.

  • Animals are allowed on the buses.
  • Space is limited, so bring only essential items.

Bus Routes and Schedules

  • South County
    • Stop 1: 6:00 p.m. to 6:10 p.m. – Dolphin Village at Gulf Boulevard
    • Stop 2: 6:30 p.m. to 6:40 p.m. – 107th and Gulf Boulevard
    • Drop-Off: Pasadena Avenue and Central Avenue – Walgreens
  • Mid County
    • Stop 1: 6:00 p.m. to 6:10 p.m. – Park Boulevard and Gulf Boulevard
    • Stop 2: 6:30 p.m. to 6:40 p.m. – 174th Avenue and Gulf Boulevard
    • Stop 3: 7:00 p.m. to 7:10 p.m. – 150th Avenue and Gulf Boulevard
    • Drop-Off: Publix at 674 150th Avenue (Duhme Road)
  • North County
    • Stop 1: 6:00 p.m. to 6:10 p.m. – Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach
    • Stop 2: 6:30 p.m. to 6:40 p.m. – Belleair Beach Causeway and Gulf Boulevard
    • Stop 3: 7:00 p.m. to 7:10 p.m. – 5th Avenue (Walsingham Road) and Gulf Boulevard
    • Drop-Off: Publix at 12022 Indian Rocks Road
