Pfizer To Open Global Capability Hub in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – Pfizer, one of the world’s premier biopharmaceutical companies, has announced plans to open a global capability hub in Tampa to bring together its multi-disciplinary, professional services, such as Finance, Human Resources, Digital, and Sourcing, into a consolidated and simplified structure.

“Florida welcomes Pfizer’s decision to expand its presence in Florida and, with it, the opportunity for good-paying jobs,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “We appreciate Pfizer’s longstanding contributions in the life sciences including of course their hard work to deliver a COVID-19 vaccine in such a short period of time –and wish them all the success.”

“Tampa is an ideal location for our latest multi-functional hub, which will provide exceptional work experiences for our colleagues and a diverse range of centralized capabilities for Pfizer to deliver its purpose – Breakthroughs that Change Patients’ Lives,” said Bill Carapezzi, Executive Vice President of Global Business Services and Transformation at Pfizer. “After conducting a comprehensive evaluation, we are excited by the opportunity Tampa offers and we look forward to becoming an integral member of the growing Tampa community.”

Pfizer’s new facility will be located just north of downtown Tampa in Heights Union, one of Tampa’s first new Class-A office buildings in three decades.

Pfizer will join life sciences company Axogen, which chose Tampa for its second headquarters office in 2018 and will occupy three floors at Heights Union.

“We’re excited to have Pfizer join our thriving life sciences ecosystem,” said Pat Kemp, chair of the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners. “We thank Pfizer for choosing Hillsborough County for this investment and we’re committed to supporting the company as it sets up operations here.”

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Pfizer to Tampa,” said Mayor Jane Castor, City of Tampa. “Despite the challenges of the past year, Tampa is still one of the most exciting cities in the country and our momentum for attracting new talent and recruiting top corporations hasn’t slowed down. If anything, it has accelerated.”

Pfizer is the latest global biopharmaceutical company to open a global hub in Hillsborough County. Over the past several years, Tampa has established itself as a top location for life sciences and healthcare companies.

It started in 2013 when Bristol Myers Squibb announced it chose Tampa for a capability center, which was then followed by Johnson & Johnson in 2015 and Amgen in 2017.

“This is great news for the Tampa Bay region and for Florida,” said Florida Secretary of Commerce Jamal Sowell. “Florida is clearly the perfect location for life science companies like Pfizer and the associated business functions that makes their success possible.”

“Tampa and Hillsborough County’s reputation for providing highly skilled talent across IT, finance, and life sciences and healthcare functions makes it a perfect fit for these large capability centers. In fact, these three industry sectors are projected to see some of the largest growth over the next five years,” said Craig Richard, President and CEO of the Tampa Bay Economic Development Council. “This is truly a transformative project for our community with positive impacts that will be felt throughout our entire region.”
