Several projectiles were intercepted by the United States Navy, USS Carney warship, passing close to Yemen, Pentagon Press Secretary Air Force Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said Thursday at a Pentagon press briefing.

With regional tensions skyrocketing over the Israel-Hamas conflict, Washington is keeping a closer eye out for activity by groups backed by Iran.

Speaking under anonymity, the official stated that several projectiles, including drones, were brought down close to the destroyer USS Carney, but no one was hurt.

What the missiles were precisely aiming for was unknown.

In the last week, the US has dispatched a sizable contingent of its armed forces to the Middle East, comprising two aircraft carriers, their support vessels, and roughly 2,000 Marines.

Even though the White House claims there are “no plans or intentions” to use them, this implies that US military resources would be available to help defend US national security interests if they became necessary.

With troops, fighter jets, and warships, the US also maintains a number of bases throughout the Middle East.
