Pensacola Man Sentenced In Tampa To 5 Years For Threatening Federal Judge And Family

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Stephen Jay Thorn, a 66-year-old man from Pensacola, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for making threats against a federal judge and their family. Thorn pleaded guilty to the charges in May.

Court documents reveal that Thorn, angered by a judicial opinion he found online, left five threatening voicemail messages at the judge’s chambers on October 24, 2022. The messages contained vulgar language and threats of harm towards the judge and their family.

U.S. Attorney Roger B. Handberg emphasized the seriousness of such threats, stating that his office is committed to prosecuting anyone who engages in this type of behavior.

The case was investigated by the United States Marshals Service and prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Joe Wheeler III.
