Last week, a Philadelphia-area school district told employees that Christmas decorations were not allowed to be displayed, even as the agency ardently supports Pride Month.
Now, the district is backing away, claiming its notice to staff was “unintended.”
As reported on Sunday by the X account Libs of TikTok, the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District issued a memo to district employees regarding complaints that had been received about Christmas decorations on school buses.

The memo, sent Friday, noted, “If you have decorated your bus with anything specific to the Christmas Holiday or any other decorations relating to a specific religion, please remove them immediately. In addition, employees are instructed not to wear clothing related to Christmas or any other religious holiday.”
“In addition, District Offices & School Buses are to refrain from playing Christmas music or any other music related to a specific religion,” the memo added.
Then, to ensure the message was sent, the memo stated in bolded capital letters that the directive “applies to all district employees.”
In its post on X, Libs of TikTok added a social media post, apparently from June, noting that the school district was celebrating Pride Month.
The school district’s post added that it supported Pride Month to ensure students and staff had a “safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment.”
Yet Fox 29 in Philadelphia reported later on Friday district officials claimed the dust-up was a “misunderstanding.”
Officials reportedly clarified their purpose for the memo and claimed the original message was “not clear,” Fox 29 noted.

The outlet did not report what wasn’t clear about the memo.
District staff added that holiday displays are not banned, Fox 29 added, but all employees should strive to foster an “inclusive environment,” Fox 29 added.
Conservatives on social media, however, were still spotlighting the memo on Sunday.
“Sick people. Merry Christmas!” New York Post columnist Miranda Devine said on X.
“The Left’s War on Christmas (and the First Amendment)…” Tom Fitton, president of the watchdog group Judicial Watch, added.
“Our taxes fund this crazy s–t too, that needs to change,” Keith and Kevin Hodge, known on social media as the Hodge Twins, replied to Libs of TikTok.
