U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) removed a Salvadoran national wanted for aggravated homicide and participation in a terrorist organization to El Salvador on February 14th, 2025.

Jonathan Stanley Garcia Vasquez, who had a final order of removal, was apprehended in the United States in December 2024 after a lengthy period of evading authorities.

“Today’s successful removal of Jonathan Stanley Garcia Vasquez highlights our unyielding commitment to the safety and security of the American people,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Philadelphia acting Field Office Director Brian McShane. “By apprehending and deporting alien foreign fugitives, ICE excels in fulfilling its public safety and national security missions.”

Garcia Vasquez was initially arrested by U.S. Border Patrol near Hidalgo, Texas, in 2016 for illegal entry. He was granted an immigration bond and released in 2017.

However, authorities in El Salvador issued a warrant for his arrest in 2018 for aggravated homicide and involvement in a terrorist organization. An immigration judge ordered his removal in absentia that same year.

ERO Newark officers finally apprehended Garcia Vasquez in New Jersey during a routine enforcement action in December 2024. He remained in ICE custody until his removal to El Salvador.
