Pelosi’s Hypocrisy May for Once Alienate Liberals in The U.S.

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is no stranger to hypocrisy.

As many people lined up at food banks after losing jobs because of coronavirus shutdowns, Pelosi yukked it up on TV with CBS’s James Corden, showing off her $20,000 fridge and her love of $13 a pint ice cream. As California intensified its clampdown on normal activities by everyday people, Nancy snuck out to her favorite salon for a hair styling – then blamed the owner for letting her in.

She’s faulted President Donald Trump for delaying ’rona relief, but has snubbed more than 50 Republicans’ proposals to deliver that.

However, Pelosi’s latest trip down Hypocrisy Lane may backfire and generate pressure from the San Franciscan’s left.

Pelosi’s House Democrats on Sunday introduced rules for the new Congress and among them were provisions to gut language regarding familial relationships from the rulebook and replace those terms with “gender-neutral” wording.

So gone from those rules would be the words “father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, first cousin, nephew, niece, husband, wife, father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, stepfather, stepmother, stepson, stepdaughter, stepbrother, stepsister, half brother, half-sister, grandson, [and] granddaughter.”

In their place, Pelosi’s House would use “parent, child, sibling, parent’s sibling, first cousin, sibling’s child, spouse, parent-in-law, child-in-law, sibling-in-law, stepparent, stepchild, stepsibling, half-sibling, [and] grandchild.”

In his famous essay on how politics corrupts the English language, George Orwell once noted, “A man may take to drink because he feels himself to be a failure, and then fail all the more completely because he drinks. It is rather the same thing that is happening to the English language. It becomes ugly and inaccurate because our thoughts are foolish, but the slovenliness of our language makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts.”

One can only imagine what Orwell would make of the current moment, when we’re told that “men” can menstruate and give birth, and that saying “black lives matter” is good, but saying “all lives matter” is incendiary.

Nonetheless, what makes Pelosi a hypocrite – this time – is that she will undoubtedly support these rule changes, but as of Sunday identified herself in her Twitter profile as a “mother” and “grandmother.” Surely the Thought Police won’t let that slide.
