WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – A 63-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run crash early Monday morning in Winter Haven. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident and seeking information about the vehicle involved.
Around 2:29 a.m., deputies and Polk County Fire Rescue responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at 3305 Spirit Lake Road, just north of Thornhill Road. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
According to the preliminary investigation, the victim was walking or standing in the northbound lane of Spirit Lake Road when he was struck by an unknown vehicle that fled the scene. The area was well-lit, but the victim was wearing dark clothing.
Traffic Homicide detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying the vehicle involved in the crash. Anyone with information is urged to contact PCSO Detective Lucas at 863-668-3100.
