LAKELAND, Fla. – A 69-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross East Edgewood Drive in Lakeland on Christmas Eve.
The incident occurred around 7:39 PM on Tuesday, December 24th, near the 2100 block of East Edgewood Drive. According to witnesses and evidence gathered at the scene, William Crede was walking south across the road when he stepped into the path of an eastbound 2015 BMW driven by 26-year-old Shakur Dexter.

Dexter immediately stopped and remained at the scene, cooperating with authorities. Emergency responders arrived promptly and attempted life-saving measures, but Crede succumbed to his injuries at Lakeland Regional Health.
The Lakeland Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the crash. The roadway was closed for approximately two hours while officers processed the scene.
