Parents Defending Education (PDE) has filed a formal request for an investigation into Boston Public Schools (BPS) by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), alleging employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin, in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
PDE, an organization with members who are parents of school children across the nation, argues that BPS is engaging in discriminatory practices by implementing affinity groups that separate employees based on race.
The complaint includes evidence such as a guide titled “White School Leaders Affinity Group: Committed to Antiracism,” which outlines lesson plans for white teachers and parents.
Additional materials include the “Mendell Affinity Group for White People Challenging Racism” pilot curriculum, designed for white affinity group members, and a training manual titled “BPS Staff Affinity Groups: Guidelines and Best Practices,” which details the creation of these race-based groups.
PDE contends that these practices are discriminatory and violate federal law, stating that BPS cannot lawfully segregate or exclude employees based on race. In their letter to the EEOC, PDE requests a prompt investigation into BPS, urging the agency to address the alleged unlawful policies swiftly and to implement appropriate corrective measures.

The letter emphasizes PDE’s opposition to racial discrimination and political indoctrination in schools, calling on federal authorities to uphold the principles of equal treatment in the workplace.
