Palm Harbor Man’s Body Pulled From Lake Tarpon After Overnight Boat Crash

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla.  - A 50-year-old man has died in an apparent boat crash that happened overnight on Lake Tarpon.

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – A 50-year-old man has died in an apparent boat crash that happened overnight on Lake Tarpon.

According to investigators, on Monday at approximately 10:22 a.m., deputies responded to a report of a missing boater on Lake Tarpon in Palm Harbor.

According to detectives, 50-year-old Mark Mayer left his residence on June 18, 2023, around 7:00 p.m., in his 19-foot Tracker vessel and failed to return home. Mayer’s family reported him missing to law enforcement.

At approximately 11:26 a.m., deputies assigned to the Flight Unit located Mayer and his boat, which appeared to have struck the dock located at 3723 Mullenhurst Drive in Palm Harbor.

Through the course of their investigation, deputies were able to determine Mayer struck the dock and was thrown from the vessel. Mayer’s body was recovered from the water near the vessel.

According to deputies, alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
