TAMPA, Fla.- There were plenty of blue jerseys at Amalie Arena on Sunday afternoon. Those wearing the Lightning bolt on front went home happy knowing that their team’s conference final series is very much alive.
Ondrej Palat’s goal, off a nifty backhand feed from Nikita Kucherov, with 42 seconds remaining in the third period lifted the Lightning to 3-2 victory over the Rangers in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference Final at Amalie Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The victory cut the Rangers’ series lead to 2-1.
It was a come-from-behind victory for the Bolts, who fell behind 2-0 in the second period when the Rangers scored twice on the power play during a period that was dominated by special teams play.
Indeed, it was a power play goal by Steven Stamkos 1:22 into the third period that evened the score and sent the home crowd into a tizzy.
The Lightning had 51 shots on goal and attempted an eye-opening 83 shots as they continuously swarmed the Rangers’ zone, especially since the midway of the second period.
Game 4 will be at Amalie on Tuesday at 8 p.m. Now that we know there will be a Game 5, that will be at the Garden on Thursday at 8 p.m. Both games will be on ESPN.
