Johnathan F. Erhart, 30, of Jefferson County, Kansas, has been charged with one count of criminal damage to property for allegedly vandalizing a Tesla in a Wichita parking lot.

The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office and WPD confirmed the charge.

The charge stems from an incident last Thursday, March 20th, where viral video footage showed a man in pajama pants appearing to scratch a parked Tesla Model X outside an Olive Garden restaurant in Wichita.

The District Attorney’s office explained the severity of the charge under Kansas law. “Under Kansas law, severity level 9 felony carries a range of sentence of 5 to 17 months in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections, depending on a defendant’s established criminal history (convictions, not arrests),” the office stated.

The Wichita Police Department (WPD) announced Erhart’s arrest, emphasizing their commitment to accountability.

“This case highlights our dedication to holding people accountable when they commit crimes in our community,” the WPD said in a news release. The WPD also acknowledged the cooperation with Jefferson County authorities in apprehending Erhart.
