If former President Donald Trump told “the Big Lie” about the 2020 election, Democrats are telling a bunch of little ones – albeit with the same point.
Faced with bad polling that indicates Republicans can retake Congress this fall, and lacking any original non-woke ideas to reverse the ship, Democrats are laying the groundwork by claiming the 2022 elections are rigged before the first vote is cast.
President Joe Biden launched this narrative last week. At a rare press conference, Biden said the November elections would not be fair unless Democrats passed their partisan voting laws, which are largely intended to rob states of control over elections.
“I think it easily could be illegitimate,” he said.
“It all depends on whether or not we’re able to make the case to the American people that some of this is being set up to try to alter the outcome of the election,” said Biden, referring to the red states’ effort to tighten loose voting laws.
Later, after a follow-up question on the topic, he replied, “I’m not saying it’s going to be legit. The increase and the prospect of it being illegitimate is in direct proportion to us not being able to get these reforms passed.”
Since then, Vice President Kamala Harris joined in, defending Biden’s claims.
U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, Democrat of Connecticut, recently told The Hill he was concerned elections could “ultimately result in a loser being declared a winner” because of Republican reforms. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Connecticut’s other senator, a Democrat, also told The Hill he could “see the argument that the result would be illegitimate,” if Republicans enact new rules.
Rep. James Clyburn, the No. 3 House Democrat, last week told NBC News he was “absolutely concerned” about illegitimate elections this fall.
The Blaze reported that Rep. Steny Hoyer, the No. 2 Democrat in the House, said “President Biden is correct” when he was asked about Biden raising concerns about illegitimate elections.
Some Democrats, including Biden’s handlers, are trying to say that they really didn’t mean what they actually said. Too late. The narrative is set.
In just over a year, as the Democrats tell it, we’ve gone from the purest, most secure election in history to banana-republic status – and the only thing that’s changed is their prospects of winning.
