Jonen Castillo, 24, of Orlando, has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for smuggling goods from the United States, specifically firearms, to Canada. U.S. District Judge John Antoon II handed down the sentence, also ordering Castillo to forfeit two Glock pistols involved in the offense.
Castillo pleaded guilty to the charges on November 25, 2024. According to court documents, in June 2023, he concealed five firearms and nine firearm magazines inside record players and mailed them to a friend residing in Canada.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant United States Attorney Diane Hu prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a nationwide initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. PSN brings together federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, as well as community-based organizations, to develop and implement comprehensive strategies to address crime.

In May 2021, the Department of Justice launched a revised violent crime reduction strategy that strengthens PSN by focusing on fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based violence prevention efforts, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
