An Oregon man who contends he was improperly kept on a public sex-offender registry in Florida has appealed after a Leon County circuit judge ruled against him.
An attorney for Moji Momeni filed a notice of appeal late Monday, which is a first step in taking the case to the 1st District Court of Appeal. Momeni filed a lawsuit in 2021 alleging that his constitutional privacy and due-process rights had been violated because Florida continued to list him as a registered sex offender, though he stopped being required to register in Oregon in 2020.
Momeni, who was convicted in 2006 on sexual-abuse charges in Oregon, had to register in Florida because he lived in the state from 2012 to 2019, according to court documents.

Circuit Judge John Cooper last month issued a four-page ruling that dismissed the case because of a statute of limitations.
Cooper wrote that Momeni would have needed to file the challenge within four years of the time that he registered in Florida in 2012.
