SARASOTA, Fla. – Javier Chavez, 35, of Sarasota, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Sheri Polster Chappell for attempted enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity and attempted transfer of obscene matter to a child. Chavez pleaded guilty to the charges in December 2024.
According to court documents, the investigation revealed that between May 15 and May 16, 2024, Chavez was chatting online with an undercover law enforcement officer who was posing as both the mother and the 14-year-old daughter.

Despite being informed of the girl’s age, Chavez proceeded to have sexually explicit conversations with the individual he believed to be the 14-year-old and sent explicit videos of himself.
Chavez was apprehended by deputies from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office when he arrived at a residence with the intention of having sex with the child. Following his arrest, Chavez admitted to law enforcement officers that his intentions with the girl were sexual in nature.

The case was a joint effort between the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Mark Morgan prosecuted the case.
