LUTZ, Fla. – A 42-year-old Palm Harbor man was tragically killed in a fiery head-on collision on State Road 54 in Pasco County Monday morning. A 19-year-old woman also sustained serious injuries in the crash.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the crash occurred around 7:55 a.m. west of Heron Cove Drive. A 19-year-old woman driving an Infiniti G37 westbound on SR-54 failed to negotiate a curve, entered the median, and overturned. Upon re-entering the roadway, the Infiniti collided head-on with an eastbound Tesla Model 3, driven by the Palm Harbor man.
The impact caused the Infiniti to erupt in flames. Both drivers were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries. Tragically, the driver of the Tesla later succumbed to his injuries. The 19-year-old female driver’s condition is currently unknown.

The FHP is currently investigating the crash to determine the exact cause of the initial loss of control. The names of the drivers involved have not yet been released.
