WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – A 47-year-old Winter Haven man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday night that left another driver injured and caused a power outage in the area.
The crash occurred around 7:15 p.m. on State Road 544 at the intersection of 16th Street NW. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a Volkswagen Tiguan was traveling westbound on SR-544 when it turned left into the path of an eastbound Toyota Supra.
The impact of the collision caused the Tiguan to rotate into the median, where it burst into flames. The Supra veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole, resulting in a power outage in the area.
The driver of the Tiguan was pronounced dead at the scene. The 24-year-old driver of the Supra, also of Winter Haven, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
