Two people were run over by a pickup truck as the Pride parade in Wilton Manors was just getting started around 7 p.m. Saturday night in South Florida, Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis confirmed.
Florida Ag Commissioner Nikki Fried was attending the parade and tweeted out from the scene.
“I’m at the @WiltonManorsCty Stonewall #Pride Parade — a truck just drove into the crowd. The driver is in police custody. I’m lucky to be safe, but at least two people were hit and are in critical condition. All of us here all praying for them and their families,” said Fried.
Fried added just moments ago, “We’ve learned that tragically one of the victims has passed away. Our hearts are breaking and we continue to pray no more innocent lives are lost.”
According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, first responders rushed in to help the victims, who were taken to Broward Health Medical Center.
Twitter user @americaunited21 tweeted out a picture of a man being detained saying, “The murderer.”
