On The Border: Nearly $1.1M Worth Of Narcotics Seized Over The Weekend, In Rio Grande Valley

Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Border Patrol agents interdicted four narcotic smuggling attempts, including a cocaine seizure valued at almost $1M.

On April 17, a Mazda CX-9 arrived at the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint for inspection and was referred to the secondary inspection area following a K9 alert.

A search of the vehicle revealed 12 bundles of cocaine in the center console and door panels. The cocaine weighed more than 29 pounds and is valued at almost $1M. Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers took custody of the driver and cocaine.

Also on April 17, Weslaco Border Patrol Station (WSL) agents responded to illicit activity south of Alamo near the Rio Grande. Agents arrested three subjects carrying bundles of marijuana.

The marijuana weighed 113 pounds and is valued at over $90,000. One of the subjects was turned over to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office for an outstanding warrant for failure to appear.

Brownsville Border Patrol Station (BRP) agents observed several subjects loading into a grey Chrysler 300 in Brownsville on April 15. The vehicle left the area at a high rate of speed. BRP agents encountered the vehicle abandoned after being involved in a minor vehicle accident.

Agents apprehended two subjects in the nearby brush, confiscated a pistol, and discovered two bundles of marijuana weighing 56 pounds and valued at approximately $45,000 in the vehicle. The subjects, narcotics, gun, and vehicle were turned over to DPS.  The driver was arrested for an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in Cameron County.

Shortly after, WSL agents discovered an abandoned backpack with eight pounds of marijuana valued at more than $6,800 near Hidalgo. The marijuana was transported to the station for processing. All subjects were processed accordingly.
