Ohio Republican Sen. J.D. Vance was conservative activists’ top choice for former President Donald Trump’s running mate in November.

The Ohio Republican captured 43% of the vote among 1,986 attendees at Turning Point Action’s “The People’s Convention” in Detroit.

Event-goers were asked to select their favorite from among Vance, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, and Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina.

Scott was the runner-up with just 15.4%. Rubio finished third with 7.7%, while Burgum received support from only 7%.

TP USA founder Charlie Kirk praised the outcome.

Vance “has consistently been one of President Trump’s most capable and articulate defenders and surrogates and he speaks right to the Midwest Americans who attended our Detroit conference,” he told the Daily Mail.

“These are precisely the blue wall voters we need to win in November to reclaim the White House. His message and appeal clearly resonates with this critical voting bloc.”

“He is young,” Kirk added of Vance. “He has an amazing family and is the only veteran that is being considered of the finalists.”

“But most importantly, he’s an incredibly popular, successful politician from the region of the world where Donald Trump needs to win, which is the Rust Belt.”

According to the Daily Mail, those close to Trump say one of those four will be his choice for potential VP. Yet, the outlet added, Trump “is notorious for changing his mind or throwing in curve balls to keep people guessing.”

As an example, the Daily Mail reported that Florida GOP Rep. Byron Donalds of Naples, another staunch Trump defender, introduced the former president at a black church in a marginalized corner of Detroit.
