A 43-year-old Ohio man has been sentenced to prison for shooting another man in the face during a dispute over a bag of potato chips.
Melvin Wright of Akron, pleaded guilty to attempted murder with a firearm, having weapons while under disability, and illegal possession of a firearm in a liquor permit premises.
He was sentenced one year later to nine to 12 years in prison.

The incident occurred on November 28, 2023, at the Lusty Adventure strip club in Akron. Wright approached the 31-year-old victim and asked for some of their potato chips. When the victim refused, Wright followed him outside and shot him in the face.
The victim, who survived the attack, required six days of hospital treatment.
Upon his release from prison, Wright will be required to register as a violent offender for 10 years.

“Summit County is safer without Melvin Wright on our streets,” Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich said. “Senseless violence has no place in Akron, and I am grateful that the survivor of this crime is continuing his courageous recovery.”
