A 35-year-old Ohio man has been charged with killing a 3-year-old child with Benedryl, according to deputies.
On April 13, 2024, at approximately 6:18 pm, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a report of an unresponsive child at 6244 London Groveport Road in Darbydale, Ohio.
Detectives discovered that a 3-year-old child who was in the care of a family friend, 35-year-old Randy Mollett, at Mollett’s Darbydale residence, had a medical emergency.

Mollett reported to Deputies on the scene that the child had a seizure. The child was transported by fire department medics to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus in serious condition.
The toddler later died at the hospital.
On May 1, 2024, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Detectives arrested and charged Randy Mollett with one count of child endangerment, one count of reckless homicide, and one count of murder.
Mollett was found to have given the child a fatal overdose of Diphenhydramine (an active ingredient of Benadryl). The case remains under active investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
Randy Mollett is currently being held in the Franklin County Jail.
