In November 2022, while serving a 20-year sentence in Ohio for kidnapping, Miller mailed a letter to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office in Gainesville, Florida. The letter contained graphic threats to kill a judge in the Eighth Judicial Circuit of Florida and to sexually assault his wife and daughter.
While awaiting trial for the threat charges at the Federal Detention Center in Tallahassee, Florida, Miller assaulted a Bureau of Prisons (BOP) nurse who was conducting a medical assessment. He stabbed her in the head with a plastic shank, intending to take her hostage.
On December 3rd, 2024, U.S. District Judge Allen Winsor sentenced Miller to 30 years of imprisonment, to be served consecutively with his existing sentence in Ohio. This sentence reflects the severity of Miller’s crimes and the need to protect government employees from threats and violence.
