Ohio, Kentucky Roots Lead To Florida Arrest In Polk County Burglary

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A business burglary in Babson Park, Polk County, has landed a 40-year-old man with a criminal history spanning Ohio and Kentucky in a Florida jail.

Matthew S. Young was arrested by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office following the theft of a pressure washer from a local business.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:10 am on Sunday, April 20th. According to reports, a pressure washer valued at $350 was stolen from the unnamed business.

In the close-knit community of Babson Park, word travels fast, according to PCSO. It wasn’t long before a tip reached PCSO detectives that Matthew Young had suddenly acquired a pressure washer. Upon being shown security footage of the burglary, the tipster positively identified Young as the individual responsible for the theft.

Detectives followed up on the lead, visiting Young’s residence. There, they observed clothing matching that worn by the suspect in the security video: a black hoodie and pants.

Young was subsequently apprehended and transported to the Polk County Jail. Despite his arrest, Young reportedly denied stealing the pressure washer. However, he did admit to selling it for a mere $15 to an individual in Highland Park.

The charges against Matthew Young include Burglary, Petit Theft, and Dealing in Stolen Property. Authorities noted that Young has an extensive criminal history in both Ohio and Kentucky, and this arrest adds Florida to his growing list of legal entanglements.
