Josiah Ernesto Garcia, a 23-year-old from Toledo, Ohio, with roots in Hermitage, Tennessee, found himself in a bit of a predicament. In need of some quick cash, he stumbled upon the website www.rentahitman.com and thought he’d found the perfect solution.

Turns out, the website was a parody, and Garcia’s dreams of becoming a professional “Reaper” were dashed.

Unbeknownst to Garcia, the website, initially a legitimate business, had transformed into a humorous platform after being bombarded with murder-for-hire requests. Garcia, however, took it all very seriously, submitting an application that emphasized his military experience and sharp-shooting abilities.

An undercover FBI agent, playing along, contacted Garcia and set up a meeting. Garcia eagerly accepted a target packet and a $2,500 down payment, even asking if he needed to provide photographic evidence of the “deed.” Unfortunately for him, the FBI wasn’t playing. Garcia was promptly arrested, and an AR-style rifle was found at his residence.

Now, Garcia is facing up to 10 years in federal prison. It seems the only “hits” he’ll be making for a while will be on the prison cafeteria menu. His sentencing is scheduled for February 7, 2025 – perhaps a good time to brush up on his comedy skills.
