The case originated in March 2023 when a brave victim came forward to the Ocala Police Department (OPD) to report years of sexual abuse perpetrated by Smith. The victim detailed numerous instances of abuse that began when they were just 10 years old and continued until they were 15.

Detective Denise Drake of the OPD’s Major Crimes Unit led the investigation. After a thorough review of the victim’s testimony, sufficient probable cause was established to arrest Smith. Smith invoked his right to remain silent and requested an attorney.

Assistant State Attorneys Katrina Self and Samantha Wahba successfully prosecuted the case, ensuring that Smith will be held accountable for his actions.
