ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A 16-year-old student at Northeast High School has been arrested after making threats to discharge a destructive device on school grounds. The 10th-grade student was taken into custody and transported to the Pinellas Juvenile Assessment Center.
The incident occurred during a verbal dispute between the student and a teacher. According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, the student made the threatening statement in the presence of other students.

“No one was harmed or in danger,” stated a police department spokesperson.
The St. Petersburg Police Department emphasizes the safety of students as a top priority and stated that any weapon on campus or other threat to school safety will be thoroughly investigated.
“This serves as a reminder to students that the police department takes these matters very seriously and the consequences could be severe,” the department said in a statement.
