North Korea has heightened tensions with the U.S. and the West by positioning hundreds of nuclear-capable missile launchers near its border with South Korea.
This move, announced by state media on Monday, comes after North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un attended a ceremony marking the deployment of these weapons.
Kim Jong-Un emphasized North Korea’s readiness for conflict and warned of “fatal consequences” if the U.S. continues to threaten the region’s security. The South Korean government has expressed concern about these weapons being used to attack or threaten their country.
The U.S. and its allies are increasingly worried about North Korea’s growing nuclear and military capabilities.
While previous attempts at denuclearization negotiations have failed, the Biden administration has not engaged in direct diplomatic talks with North Korea. North Korean media has also indicated indifference towards the upcoming U.S. presidential elections, suggesting little hope for improved relations.
