TAMPA, Fla. – A short section of North Howard Avenue, between West Kennedy Boulevard and West Fig Street, will be closed from July 15 to August 5, 2024, as Hillsborough County nears completion of a major resurfacing project.
The closure is necessary for the final phase of reconstruction and repaving on North Howard Avenue, which aims to improve safety and transportation efficiency. Weather permitting, work is expected to be completed by August 2024.
Detours will guide motorists around the work zone. Residents are advised to follow the marked detours for the duration of the closure.

The project, located within the City of Tampa, encompasses full resurfacing, installation of rectangular rapid-flashing beacons (RRFBs) at six crosswalks, reduced speed limits from 40 mph to 35 mph, sidewalk enhancements, and new signage and pavement markings.
These improvements prioritize pedestrian safety and multimodal accommodations, with the RRFBs specifically designed to assist pedestrians and cyclists in safely crossing the street.
