A North Carolina orthodontist drove liberals mad with a brief promotion that included giving certain patients a free Glock 19.

The New York Post recently reported that Dr. Jason Gladwell, who practices in Wake Forest, offered patients the choice of a new Glock pistol or a membership in the nearby Youngsville Gun Club & Range.

Gladwell’s two-day “Grins & Glocks” promotion was available to those who signed up for an Invisalign teeth-aligner treatment. The promotion was on Nov. 8 and 9.

Liberals were flummoxed that the promotion was both legal and followed state laws for gun ownership.

Gladwell told the local media that the promotion was not for everyone, but rather that it was solely marketed for the gun club. “The promotion is non-transferable. The person who actually gets started with the Invisalign treatment has to actually be the eligible person,” he told WRAL.

Gun club owner Kurt Lieberman also told the local media that anyone slated to receive a Glock had to come into his store to obtain the gun and complete and pass all necessary background checks.

“It’s a process. They have to come; they have to have a valid driver’s license. They have to be a legal citizen; they have to be 21 and older,” Lieberman said. “We do a background check here on site. That has to come back approved. They have to fill out all the paperwork.”

Yet that was not good enough for anti-gun critics.

Jennifer Copeland, executive director of the left-wing NC Council of Churches, told WRAL, “They’re giving away guns that are going to be lodged in a house somewhere, and will potentially create gun violence and gun death. It’s mind-blowing to me, that an organization that I think of as trying to provide health care to the people in the community is partnering their healthcare with gun death.”

“The fact remains that after we go through these checks, they’re going to give a gun to somebody who’s going to take it home, and it will be in their home,” she added.

Gladwell was bothered that the gun promotion received more attention than his other charitable partnerships with other local businesses.

“We would love if people could pay attention to some of our other charitable donations and campaigns,” he told WRAL. “Last month, we did $50 for every patient that got started to the Mitchell 10Penny Fund to support cancer and families affected by cancer.”

In a statement to Tampa Free Press, Align, the makers of Invisalign said, “Align Technology, the makers of Invisalign® brand clear aligners, recently learned of a customer’s promotional advertisement that offers a free handgun or gun range membership to qualified new patients who begin Invisalign treatment. Invisalign trained doctors are independent practices and Align was not involved in the development or approval of this promotion by the dental practice, and only learned of it after the fact. For more than 25 years, Align has been helping doctors transform smiles and change lives through healthy beautiful smiles using Invisalign aligners, and this promotion does not reflect our brand purpose.
