Daniel Wood, 48, of Charlotte, has been sentenced to 48 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The sentence was announced today by Acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina, Lawrence J. Cameron.
The sentencing follows Wood’s conviction, which stemmed from an incident on May 1, 2022. According to evidence presented during the trial, Wood attempted to enter a Charlotte nightclub while carrying a loaded firearm in his pants pocket. Nightclub security discovered the weapon during a pat-down before entry.

Security personnel removed the firearm and turned it over to an off-duty Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officer. Wood then spoke with the officer, admitting he had received the gun from someone else and had forgotten it was in his pocket.
Court records revealed that Wood has prior felony convictions, which legally prohibit him from possessing a firearm.
