A North Carolina high school student was recently suspended because he used the term “illegal alien.”

According to The Carolina Journal, the unnamed 16-year-old student at Central Davidson High School in Lexington, North Carolina, earned a three-day stay at home because he sought clarity in an assignment in his English class.

The teacher reportedly assigned the class vocabulary words last week that included the word “alien.”

The student’s mother, Leah McGhee, told the Journal her son asked the teacher, “Like space aliens or illegal aliens without green cards?”

As the Journal reported, another male student in the class “took offense to his question and reportedly threatened to fight him, prompting the teacher to call in the assistant principal. Ultimately, his words were deemed by administrative staff to be offensive and disrespectful to classmates who are Hispanic.”

The student himself, in response to the allegations, said, “I didn’t make a statement directed towards anyone; I asked a question. I wasn’t speaking of Hispanics because everyone from other countries needs green cards, and the term ‘illegal alien’ is an actual term that I hear on the news and can find in the dictionary.”

The family has now hired a lawyer because they fear being branded a racist could cost him a shot at a track scholarship in college.

The X account Libs of TikTok, which highlighted the case, identified the student only as Christian.

“Hopefully, North Carolina officials can step in and ensure his record isn’t tarnished in any way because he’s trying to secure an athletic scholarship for college. He should not be persecuted for using the correct term just because the left is trying to change our entire language,” LOTT added.

Even X owner Elon Musk took note of the incident.

“This is absurd,” Musk posted in response to the LOTT comment.
