SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. – A Nokomis man is celebrating a life-changing win after scratching his way to a $1 million prize from a Florida Lottery ticket.
Matthew Maio, 41, purchased the winning $20 GOLD RUSH LIMITED scratch-off ticket at an Osprey BP gas station. He chose to receive his winnings as a one-time lump-sum payment of $795,000.
The lucky retailer also gets a prize – a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.

The GOLD RUSH LIMITED game, launched in September 2021, offers players the chance to win up to $5 million, with 32 top prizes at that level and 100 prizes of $1 million.
Scratch-off games are a significant part of the Florida Lottery’s success, making up about 74% of ticket sales. Since they began, scratch-off games have awarded over $64.3 billion in prizes and created more than 2,230 millionaires in Florida. They’ve also generated over $19.5 billion for the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund, supporting education initiatives across the state.
