PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Drivers should plan for nighttime closures of the I-275 Express Lanes and various ramps along the Gateway Expressway (SR 690) this weekend and early next week, according to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
The closures, scheduled to allow for maintenance and construction, will take place during the following timeframes, weather permitting.

I-275 Express Lanes
The northbound and southbound I-275 Express Lanes in Pinellas County will be closed from:
- 11 p.m. Friday, December 20 to 5 a.m. Saturday, December 21
- 11 p.m. Sunday, December 22 to 5 a.m. Monday, December 23
Detour: Drivers should use the general-purpose (free) travel lanes.
Eastbound SR 690 Ramp to Northbound I-275 Express Lane
The eastbound SR 690 Express Lane entrance ramp to the northbound I-275 Express Lane will be closed during the same periods:
- 11 p.m. Friday, December 20 to 5 a.m. Saturday, December 21
- 11 p.m. Sunday, December 22 to 5 a.m. Monday, December 23
Detour: Drivers can use the general-purpose entrance ramp adjacent to the Express Lane ramp to access the free lanes of northbound I-275.
Southbound US 19 Ramp to Eastbound SR 690
The southbound US 19 ramp to eastbound SR 690 (Gateway Expressway) will also be closed during the following times:
- 11 p.m. Friday, December 20 to 5 a.m. Saturday, December 21
- 11 p.m. Sunday, December 22 to 5 a.m. Monday, December 23
Detour: Drivers should exit at Ulmerton Road, travel south on Frontage Road, turn left onto eastbound 118th Avenue N, and use the left entrance ramp onto eastbound SR 690.
Westbound SR 690 Ramp to Northbound US 19
The westbound SR 690 ramp to northbound US 19 will be closed during the same periods:
- 11 p.m. Friday, December 20 to 5 a.m. Saturday, December 21
- 11 p.m. Sunday, December 22 to 5 a.m. Monday, December 23
Detour: Traffic will be directed to exit onto westbound 118th Avenue N, continue west, turn right onto northbound Frontage Road, and use the entrance ramp to access northbound US 19.
